Backstreet Boys star AJ McLean and wife Rochelle recently sent their daughters back to school with a cute image of the girls carrying balloons that displayed their names and new grades. However, astute fans instantly noticed something strange about their oldest daughter’s new nickname.
Both Rochelle and AJ posted the same photo of their girls’ first day of school on Instagram on August 24. “These two beauties are back in school after 2.5 years of homeschooling!” The caption on Rochelle’s Instagram post said. “Elliott (Ava) is in fourth grade, and Lyric is starting kindergarten! It’s really unbelievable! These girls make me incredibly proud. Even though I will miss them, I can’t wait to see them soar on their own!
The McLeans’ oldest daughter, formerly known as Ava, was clutching a balloon that read “Elliot,” while their 5-year-old daughter Lyric’s balloon said the name and grade many Instagram followers were expecting. Ava was placed in parentheses in the couple’s Instagram caption to stress that she no longer goes by that name.
One Instagram user asked if Elliott would change genders in response to the name change. Instagram user @angeles.labarca asked “Elliott?” “Will Ava turn into a boy?” Rochelle affirmed that her daughter’s name change was due to her being different rather than gender. Rochelle commented that it wasn’t a gender issue. She requested that we rename her Elliott since she was sick of hearing the name Ava so often. She desired a distinctive item.
Greetings on Elliott’s new name!
